Week 9

I started week nine one Sunday already. Together with a friend of mine we went to weld a bar for people to hold on to if they find it to scary to stand on top of the skateboard! This is the result.

On Tuesday I went to program the game furthermore. Because I don’t have a lot of experience with building bigger games with scenes before it didn’t quite work how I wanted it to work.
For the 100 time I asked Yvens for help and he gladly wanted to help me with it. Because of the OSC Server not working I needed to find a new solution of making my own scenes/states.
Yvens explained me how I could write my own state machine where I can check if I am in a certain state and with an extra security of only going to the next state if it is this or this. If I somehow programmed it wrong, it would never go to the scene that I programmed wrong and stay in the scene it is.

Wednesdays Rania wanted me to implement the firebase she worked on in the unity project to test. After a bit of questioning Rania on what the functions she made meant I could easily implement the code in the project and got a working database!!

Wednesdays we had our final product presentation with Margit and Yvens. They were really positive about the installation, our whole campaign and our testings. When they graded us according to what they saw we already got an 8! Margit said that we could maybe boost the grade if the interaction will completely work to a 9 and I was really excited about that.
This also gave me the last boost for the final days.

After a lot of programming at home on Wednesday night I couldn’t get the Particle system to work how I wanted it to work. I asked Yiwei and Kaspar Thursday morning if they could help me and sadly they couldn’t. I waited for Yvens to arrive at school and asked his help. And ofcourse, he knew the answer right away. It was one line were I needed to check if the particle system wasn’t a null.

Then the day came, the day of the go or no go. The interaction worked fine and we came to school very early to make everything ready. We needed to do some final detailing in the visuals and it was ready for Harry and Rene. But… Murphy stroke again. The interaction failed and we got a no go.

I worked on the installation for the whole weekend, checking all the code, testing more sensors and eventually changing the accelerometer for the questions to two switches. This worked much better!

I also added some extra states for explanation of what you need to do and how to interact with our installation.
I had some problems with the audio and could find what the problem was, I did a lot of searching on how to fix the audio problem! I was desperate and messaged Yvens and it was the problem that I didn’t have an audio listener on my project and that is why it didn’t play the audio.

Overall it was a very hectic week but really fun and exciting to do!
