Week 3

Last week a lot has been done for the project. Research is getting to an end and the prototyping fase is coming closer.

The things I did last week were pretty simple to do but acquired more time than I had in mind.

First of creating the Hardware and Wiring Diagram. I needed to search for specific sensor that we want to use and needed to connect everything in a program called Fritzing.

After this, I was mainly focusing on the construction plan together with Sacha. We made a lot of different maya models and could easily tell if the installation has the right proportions.

I also did a small calculation on how much the wood, Perspex glass and other materials are going to cost. The conclusion of these calculations were that we really need to look for sponsors!

The other thing I focused on was upgrading our database and what kind of data we want to retrieve from the users and what data we (maybe) can send to them. The guest lecture that we had gave me a lot of insights on what kind of data we could use. Not only to make our installation better but also what data could be interesting for Enschede as a city.

I’m continuously searching for shops that can offer us the cheapest but best sensors and trying to make sure everybody is doing their thing for the project.

I also decided to use Scrum in my own way. This means no scrum poker and I’ll add (if need) new items to the backlog every day.  This also means that I need to have an overall insight on how different tasks are going to be fulfilled and how time consuming I think it is going to be. After I managed to put all of this inside our scrum board. I’ll go by every item for 1 minute and everybody can give their opinion on what my idea of the task was. I make a summary out of this and update (when needed) this particular task in the scrumboard.

Next week I’m going to start and prototype with distance sensors inside of unity so we have a idea on the programming of the installation and how it will visually look.
